Whether we do it ourselves, or have someone helping us, its part of running a business that you have to put your self out there. Its very hard to find new customers and clients and grow your business if you don’t tell anyone about it. There are a whole host of ways you can do this and different methods and avenues will work for different people and audiences, but here are a few ideas to get you started.

Social Media

This is a great way to interact with people real-time. Need to test an idea? Find out if people have questions or want to learn more about something then its super easy and fast to get feedback on social media. I’d recommend starting small, to avoid overwhelm. Its much better to rock 1 or 2 platforms than be half-arsed at 5 of them. So which one do you choose? This is a balance between where your people are, and how you like to communicate, and it can change and evolve over time especially as new tools come out, Periscope is a great example of this.

Facebook groups

If facebook is one of your platform of choose then you can extend it one further and really get involved in groups. Participating in groups is a great way to get known amongst others and to offer to advice and help. I’d recommend helping people over pitching here too, a lot of groups don’t even allow pitching because it can turn the group into a spam/scamming bad vibe sales centre, and this is not what they are about.

The other route here is to create your own group, which can be great advertising for you and your expertise. Its important to set out rules for the group on what it accepted and what is not, as well as make clear what your involvement level is too.


Regardless of your medium, written blogs, video blogs or podcasts, adding regular, helpful content to your website is an awesome way to promote yourself. It allows people to get to know you and what you are about without any commitments. Often this can be a deciding factor into whether someone wants to joins your email list or work with you further, so having fresh up to date content will always work in your favour.

Email Newsletters

Its a fast moving digital world, and if you don’t remind people constantly that you exist then they will forget about you, regardless of how awesome they thought you were when they first signed up. Sending regular email newsletters is the perfect way to continue giving value to your peeps and letting them know that your there for them if they need.

Go Offline

Whilst we certainly live in the digital age, don’t be afraid to embrace traditional offline methods for getting yourself out there and connecting with people. Sometimes a human touch can really seal the deal or leave that lasting impression. Use your imagination but some ideas could be sending thank you gifts. Or how about a personalised postcard? A hand written note or invitation can make a person feel really special.

Test thing out and see how they work or come up with some more ideas of your own. Whats important is that you do take action, don’t hide yourself and your knowledge away, put it out there, share it with the world, guaranteed there is someone just waiting to connect and know you exist.
